Lake Compounce (24 mi), located in Bristol, CT, is a
427-acre family theme park, including a 20-acre
lake and more than 50 rides and attractions. Now
the nation’s oldest amusement park, Lake
Compounce has been in continuous operation since
1846 and enters its 166th season in 2011. Splash
Harbor Water Park was added in 1998, making Lake
Compounce Connecticut’s largest water park.
Following the introduction of Splash Harbor,
numerous water rides have been added including
fantastic water slides, spray fountains, tube
slides, a wave pool, a 60-ft. New England
Lighthouse, and an 800-foot lazy river known as
Anchor Bay. In 2000, the Boulder Dash roller
coaster was added, and has been voted one of the
World’s Best Wooden Coasters by coaster
enthusiasts throughout the world. In 2006,
Thunder n’ Lightning joind the cash of thrill
rides at Lake Compounce, swinging rides to
heights of over 90 feet at more than 60 mph. |

Quassy
Amusement Park (28 mi).
Quassy celebrates 103 years of affordable
family fun in 2011! In addition to the multitude
of exciting and fun-filled attractions for the

private parties for school, church, camp,
sporting & corporate events.
Quassy, which was once called Lake Quassapaug
Amusement Park, sits on a beautiful lake in
Middlebury, Connecticut. Quassy was not always
the amusement park it is today. Native Americans
once populated this large area. The Native
Americans translated Lake Quassapaug to mean
“Big Pond” or “Big Rock”. What is so attractive about Quassy Amusement
Park? Overlooking sparkling Lake Quassapaug, the
park features more than two-dozen rides and
attractions, setting the stage for an
interactive day of family fun.

Railroad
Museum of NE (14 mi). The Railroad Museum of New
England, Inc. is a not-for-profit educational
and historical organization, founded in January
1968. The mission of the Railroad Museum of New
England (RMNE) is to establish an interpretive
facility where the story of the region's rich
railroad heritage can be effectively told. We
have an extensive collection of New England
rolling stock, including locomotives of all
types, passenger cars, freight cars, and
cabooses. We have New England railroad artifacts
dating from the 1840's to the present…
everything from tickets to signal towers. As
much as we have acquired, all of it remains idle
without our dedicated membership. The museum
concept is more than artifacts, it's also a
story of the region and the development of
society around the railroad. |

Action Wildlife Foundations (7 mi). Action Wildlife
Foundation, Inc. offers
residents of CT, MA and NY the unusual
opportunity of observing and learning about
animals from North America, Africa, India, New
Zealand, Asia and the Artic. Not only is a visit
to AW an education in animal life and habitats,
it is also a fun activity for children to touch
and feed the smaller animals in our petting zoo.
Older children and young adults are sure to be
intrigued by the museum gallery.
Visit AW and experience the beauty and strength
occurring naturally in the wild. Located
in Goshen, Connecticut, Action Wildlife
Foundation sits upon the Northwest Hills of
Litchfield County, surrounded by glorious fields

Lourdes Shrine (6 mi). This 170
acre shrine built by the Montfort Missionaries
and dedicated as a place of peace, prayer and
pilgrimage. Open daily dawn to dusk. Pilgrimage
Season May-Oct. Tues.-Sun. Mass in the Grotto
11:30 am, Sun. afternoon prayers and devotions 3
pm. Spectacular hillside Stations of the Cross
path. Free admission. Gift Shop and Snack Bar.

White Memorial Conservation
Center (5 mi) is an Environmental
Education Center and Nature Museum, located in
the heart of the 4000-acre White Memorial
Foundation in the hills of northwestern
Connecticut. The Conservation Center operates a
Nature Museum with exhibits focusing on the
interpretation of local natural history,
conservation, and ecology, as well as a Museum
Nature Store.

Goshen Fairgrounds (5 mi). September 3, 4, &
5, 2011. The Goshen Fair is one of Connecticut’s
premier country fairs, featuring horse shows,
cattle showmanship, woodcutting demonstrations,
livestock judging, tractor pulls, and live
entertainment including bluegrass bands and
magicians. In addition, there will be
hand-crafting demonstrations of quilting,
spinning, weaving and basketry.

Lime Rock
Park,
(17 mi.) the Road Racing Center of the East
hosts some of the largest racing events in the
Northeast. The season begins with the
traditional Memorial Day Weekend Road Racing
Classic featuring high-horsepower sports car
battles. The season follows with the American Le
Mans Northeast Grand Prix, the premier sports
car event of he Northeast. Then there is the
stock cars of the Mohegan Sun NASCAR Camping
World 200 followed by the glamour, glory and
style of the Vintage Festival on Labor Day
weekend.

Rev3 Triathlon
World-class event returns to Quassy (28 mi.) on
June 4 & 5, 2011. Hundreds of athletes from
around the world to compete. The REVOLUTION3
Triathlon race series was created to change the
way athletes, family members, and spectators
view and participate in triathlons of all
distances. One of their immediate goals is to
make triathlons a more interactive, enjoyable
experience for spectators by providing fun
activities for children and family members
during the race.
